What is Morpheus?

This Gitbook is authored by the Morpheus Open Source Contributors Community. All the ideas and concepts presented here are the result of collaborative efforts of individuals passionate about decentralized technologies and AI.

The short answer is that Morpheus is a powerful platform for generative AI applications, similar to how Ethereum is a platform for Smart Contracts.

A more detailed explanation would be: Morpheus is a Decentralized AI network designed to incentivize a network of Smart Agents, general-purpose AI that can execute Smart Contracts on behalf of users. It utilizes LLM (Large Language Model) Transformer technology to convert human language into actionable code for Web3 interactions, using intent-based abstractions.

The objective of Morpheus is to allow anyone who wants to deploy a Smart Agent or Decentralized AI application to have the compute, capital, code and community rails they need to do so.

On September 2nd, 2023, a group of anonymous authors who identified themselves as Morpheus, Trinity, and Neo published a groundbreaking paper, marking the inception of the Morpheus network.

Morpheus is among the first networks since Bitcoin to adopt a purely free-market approach to every aspect of its operation. Its economic theory is grounded in the principles of individual sovereignty, voluntary markets, and anarcho-capitalism.

This belief in the self-organizing power of free markets has been validated as Morpheus evolved from a whitepaper proposed by these anonymous authors in September 2023, to the first open-source Morpheus Smart Agents install in October 2023, to the deployment of Smart Contracts for a Fair Launch in February 2024, and finally, to the MOR token going live in May 2024.
